Books and School Supply Service Project Helps Thousands

Thousands of central Ohio children were helped by the collection and distribution of books and school supplies through a partnership between the National American Miss Pageant and Altrusa Club of Columbus, Ohio.

Since 2005, pageant contestants have collected books and school supplies as a service project and brought them to the event in Columbus for distribution by our club. The collection went to state-assisted agencies, churches, libraries, community resource centers, social service groups, literacy centers and ministries.

Special thanks goes out to the Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging for allowing us to store the books and school supplies at their agency, while we completed the recipient sorting.

In 2015, this Altrusa service project received the Letha H. Brown Literacy Award from District Five.

Books and school supplies are delivered to
Mann Trailer Park.

Books will help students in the English as a second language
classes in the Community of Hope outreach program.

Cheers Ohio! a Success

Our thanks go out to the sponsors, donors, guests, and club members that supported the successful Cheers Ohio fundraising event. The event raised over $7500 to support the Altrusa Club of Columbus, Ohio Foundation’s literacy and service projects, and scholarships that are given locally and internationally.

A fantastic time was enjoyed by all who attended our May 21st fundraiser. Attendees enjoyed the thrill of bidding on silent auction items, the anticipation of winning a raffle and a great time answering Ohio trivia questions.

Congratulations to our generous community on the impact it will make in the lives of our grant recipients proving that together we do make a difference!

A heart-felt congratulations is extended to our fellow Altrusan, Colleen McMurray, who was recently inducted into the Central Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame.
